St. John’s Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Terry Griffin Shooting

A St. John’s man is facing charges of first-degree murder following the death of another man last week. Corey Snook, 48, is accused in the premeditated killing of Terry Griffin, 30, in the city’s west end, prompting a swift response from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC). The incident has shaken the community and led to an ongoing investigation.

Fatal Shooting on Salter Place

On Thursday morning, at approximately 10:40 a.m., the RNC responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on Salter Place. Upon arrival, officers discovered Griffin deceased inside the home. The scene was immediately secured, and a search for the suspect commenced. Shortly after, authorities surrounded a property on nearby Gros Morne Place, where Snook was apprehended without incident.

Pre-Existing Charges and Additional Accusations

This incident is not an isolated event. According to police reports, Snook was already facing prior charges related to Griffin, including uttering threats and assault with a weapon. In addition to the charge of first-degree murder, Snook now faces a series of firearm-related offenses. These include careless use of a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized. He is also accused of three counts of breaching release orders.

Police Appeal for Public Assistance

The RNC is actively seeking information from the public to aid in their investigation. Investigators are requesting any video footage or tips related to activity in the vicinity of Salter Place, Columbus Drive, and Gros Morne Place between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, could prove valuable to the ongoing inquiry.

Upcoming Court Appearance

Snook is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Tuesday morning. The hearing will determine whether he will be released pending trial. The case is expected to draw significant public attention, given the severity of the charges and the pre-existing relationship between the accused and the victim.

The RNC continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Griffin’s death, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
