The news of Basile’s death resonated deeply with his admirers. Jerónimo Basile, one of the actor’s sons, revealed the cause of death during an interview with Snail Radio, speaking amidst the grief felt by his family and the broader Colombian artistic community.
Pancreatic Cancer Claimed Salvo Basile After a Six-Year Health Battle
Jerónimo detailed that his father had experienced declining health for six years, undergoing numerous medical evaluations for persistent stomach pains. However, the definitive diagnosis of pancreatic cancer wasn’t received until December 2025, bringing a heartbreaking clarity to the family’s concerns.
“On December 1st, my brother Alessandro called me with a lump in his throat… they had found (Salvo) a cancer in the pancreas,” Jerónimo shared during the interview.
According to Jerónimo, his father was diagnosed with a tumor “the size of a tennis ball.” The illness progressed rapidly, tragically claiming Salvatore’s life just a month and a half after the diagnosis.

“The truth is, we didn’t expect it so quickly, but also (we are) very grateful because I was suffering a lot, the deterioration was very rapid,” he assured.
Jerónimo fondly recalled that, despite the pain, his father’s final days were filled with moments of joy shared with family.
A Passion for People Defined Salvo Basile’s Legacy
Basile’s son emphasized that his father’s greatest passion was always for people. He recounted stories of Basile’s generosity, such as personally soliciting donations of tons of rice to feed children in vulnerable neighborhoods of Cartagena, and dedicating his time to teaching them history and English.

This commitment to social issues also led Basile to pursue a seat on the Cartagena City Council, hoping to contribute to the city’s governance. However, he was not selected as a candidate.
“That would have killed him to be here in the Council of Cartagena, it would have killed him before his time,” Jerónimo said.
