Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) has combined a stretchable OLED OLED screen and a photoplethysmography sensor (PPG) in one design. The new device, which remains functional even when stretched by 30%, can measure and display the user’s heart rate in real time.

During the experiment, SAIT made sure that the stretchable sensors located on the inner side of the wrist next to the radial artery work correctly during movement and can withstand at least 1,000 stretching cycles without damage. In addition, the moveable sensor records the heart rate 2.4 times more accurately than the stationary silicon sensor.

Devices that use an elastomer and a stretchable electrode material are planned to be used to control other parameters of the body. The timing of the appearance of serial electronics with stretchable displays is not reported.
