Samsung Raises Galaxy S26 Prices by $100 Due to Component Shortages

Samsung raised prices by $100 or more across most of its Galaxy S26 smartphone lineup in the United States on October 1, 2026, driven by persistent memory component shortages tied to the artificial intelligence infrastructure boom.

Consumers looking to purchase a new flagship smartphone are facing higher costs as component shortages ripple across the consumer technology industry. Samsung implemented the increases on October 1, 2026, pushing retail prices up by $100 on nearly every model in the Galaxy S26 portfolio. The adjustments follow earlier price bumps when the devices originally debuted earlier in the year, leaving buyers to pay significantly more than previous generations required.

Galaxy S26 Price Increases Across the Lineup

The base Galaxy S26, S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra have all jumped by $100 on Samsung’s official web store. With the latest adjustment combined with earlier increases at launch, the base configuration now starts at $999 for the 256GB Galaxy S26. The Galaxy S26+ starts at $1,199, while the standard Galaxy S26 Ultra begins at $1,399.

Higher storage tiers faced steeper hikes. The 1-terabyte version of the S26 Ultra received a $200 increase, bringing its retail price to $1,999.

Starting prices were previously $899, $1,099, and $1,299, but shoppers will find them at $999, $1,199, and $1,399, as Phone Arena reports. Samsung Electronics Co. raised prices across most of its Galaxy S26 smartphone lineup, which Phone Arena and other outlets noted as the latest example of consumer-tech brands passing costs on to consumers amid a persistent memory shortage. Following US price hikes of $100 or greater by Samsung, the 256GB entry-level Galaxy S26 now approaches the $1,000 threshold.

Galaxy S26 Model Storage Capacity Updated Price
Galaxy S26 256GB $999
Galaxy S26 512GB $1,199
Galaxy S26+ 256GB $1,199
Galaxy S26+ 512GB $1,399
Galaxy S26 Ultra 256GB $1,399
Galaxy S26 Ultra 512GB $1,599
Galaxy S26 Ultra 1TB $1,999

AI Infrastructure Spending Drives Memory Chip Shortages

The adjustments stem from industry-wide cost pressures. When Samsung unveiled the S26 lineup earlier in the year, it cited the rising cost of RAM as the reason for initial increases over previous generation phones. Manufacturers across the consumer electronics sector continue to grapple with an unprecedented shortage of memory chips driven by artificial intelligence infrastructure spending and data center buildouts.

Other major technology companies have introduced similar adjustments. Apple introduced a pricier iPhone 18 Pro line last month while increasing costs for older models, and Google raised prices on the Pixel 11 series compared with previous generations.

Exceptions Across the Samsung Portfolio

Not every device in Samsung’s catalog was affected by the October adjustments. The Galaxy S26 FE remained at its $699 starting price, although that price is higher than the S25 FE’s despite being, as The Verge’s Dominic Preston put it, essentially the same phone as last year’s. Additionally, foldable devices including the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 were spared from the latest hikes.

Buyers looking to bypass the increases can still find original pricing through select retail channels and carrier promotions. Certain color options for the S26 Ultra saw price reductions on Amazon, whereas leading telecommunication providers like T-Mobile and Verizon frequently provide savings reaching $1,000 on new handsets provided customers enroll in a designated rate plan, trade in an older unit, or switch providers.
