Samsung Releases New One UI 9 Watch Beta for Flagship Smartwatches

Samsung has pushed newer One UI 9 Watch beta updates to the Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 7, and Watch Ultra, delivering the October 2026 security patch alongside bug fixes for device operation and altimeter displays.

Samsung Expands Smartwatch Testing With New Beta Firmware

Samsung is expanding its software testing cycle by distributing fresh beta builds for its flagship wearable lineup. The latest firmware rollout reaches the Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 8 Classic, Watch 7, and the first-generation Watch Ultra, according to posts in the Samsung Community highlighted by industry reporting. This distribution represents the fifth beta build for the Galaxy Watch 8 and the fourth for both the Watch 7 and the Watch Ultra.

File sizes for these updates measure around 200MB, varying slightly by specific model variant. The Galaxy Watch 8 beta update carries firmware version ZZJ1 at 226.19MB, while the Watch Ultra receives a build sized at 219.92MB. Subsequent testing builds across devices have also utilized firmware build numbers ending with ZZJ5.

Samsung Applies Security Patches and System Fixes

Samsung’s official release notes highlight specific technical adjustments designed to smooth out day-to-day performance across supported devices.

  • Applied stabilization code for device operation.
  • Resolved Watch Nowbar errors.
  • Fixed an altimeter information display error.

The current beta cycle focuses heavily on system stability and resolving operational hiccups reported by testers. Alongside these targeted patches, the update integrates the October 2026 security patch across the entire participating smartwatch ecosystem. Samsung’s official release notes additionally mention underlying refinements across Samsung Health, health sensors, Always-On Display (AOD) functionality, and home button shortcuts.

Wear OS 7 Features Require Matching Phone Software

Both the phone and the Galaxy Watch must be running One UI 9 to unlock features such as Daily cardio load, Vitals tracking for sudden physiological deviations, a Trail running coach, and specific insights for diving and cycling. Underpinning the software is Google’s Wear OS 7 platform, which introduces advanced metric tracking for users who pair their wearables with compatible smartphones.

Global deployments typically land a week or two following initial regional rollouts in South Korea, while older generations including the Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 5 remain in line for future updates. While stable releases have already reached smartphone series such as the Galaxy S26, S25, S24, and S23, Samsung has not yet announced a definitive release date for the stable version of One UI 9 Watch. Beta updates continue to roll out in waves by region, carrier, and model.
