Samsung is no longer betting on a single foldable form factor to satisfy every consumer. During the July 22 event, the company expanded its portfolio to acknowledge that one size does not fit all
, according to Hubert Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the Design Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. By splitting the Z Fold series, Samsung is now targeting two distinct user priorities: high-end productivity and portability.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the “Emotive Slim” Philosophy
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra stands as the slimmest Galaxy Z Fold to date. To achieve this, Samsung utilized a design concept called Emotive Slim
, which focuses on both the actual reduction of thickness and the visual perception of slimness during daily use. The hardware features a curved outer silhouette for a softer grip and a gentle slope on the frame to make the device easier to open.
While the Ultra focuses on thinness, the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 drew its ergonomic inspiration from a classic passport. This choice was intended to ensure the device remains easy to carry and read at a glance with one hand. This design manifests in a 16:10 aspect ratio when folded, which then opens into a symmetrical 4:3 immersive display.
The aesthetic shift is part of a broader approach Samsung calls Emotive Geometry
. This method aims to blend refined, simple forms with human warmth
to connect with users emotionally rather than relying solely on technical performance.
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Wearable Refinement
For the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9, Samsung opted for refinement over a total redesign. The central identity of the series remains the cushion design,
which balances a strong presence with softness. The Ultra2 specifically integrates the screen, bezel, and cushion body into a single seamless form to create a more premium profile.
A critical update focuses on tactile interaction. Samsung refined the spacing and separation between buttons, allowing users to distinguish and control them by touch without needing to look at the screen.
The hardware updates extend to the bands, which now feature a new air pocket structure to make them thinner, lighter, and more breathable. To ensure a universal fit, Samsung used computational design to analyze more than one hundred million real-user wrist data and conducted ten thousands of simulations.
Color Palettes and Model Differentiation
Samsung has tied its color choices to the specific lifestyles of the target users for each device.

- Violet Shadow: Designed for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra to provide a sophisticated look.
- Lavender: Applied to the Galaxy Z Fold8 to evoke freshness and softness.
- Pink: Used for the Galaxy Z Flip8 to project playful energy.
- Cream and Graphite: Available as versatile, timeless options.
AI Integration and Market Expectations
The Fold 8 Ultra was expected to push the boundaries of the series regarding screen brightness, charging speeds, and battery life. While the focus of the event remained on foldables and wearables, there were indications of a broader strategy involving the Android XR platform and potential smart glasses developed in partnership with fashion brands.
The transition to a multi-tier foldable strategy—offering both a standard and an Ultra model—suggests Samsung is attempting to capture diverse user needs. This move mirrors the diversification seen in their tablet and S-series phone lines.
With the devices now unveiled, the industry is watching for the actual market reception of the “Emotive Slim” design and the real-world utility of the expanded Galaxy AI features across the new hardware.
