One of the stories in European football that kept us busy in the fall was the conflict between United head coach Erik ten Hag and winger Jadon Sancho. The parties burned their bridges; in the winter the player was released to his native Borussia Dortmund on loan. Now Jadon intends to rehabilitate his career – but it’s apparently all over with the Mancunians.

But it was Jadon who set the tone for the home match – he scored in the 3rd minute, and the goal ultimately became the winning one.
It is clear that the winger is motivated and shows a different performance when he is trusted. The statistics are confusing, but the context must also be taken into account. At Manchester United, Sancho did not train with the main team (not to mention playing practice), he was placed under total isolation – and this is a serious blow to his form.
Sancho doesn’t want to join Ten Hag, Manchester United is ready to let him go
Mancunians have to deal with ballast – and this is already a tradition. Because of Anthony, a conflict of interest with ten Hag is brewing – at least with regard to Sancho, there is none. It’s impossible to imagine Jadon on the team anymore. The degree of obstinacy of the parties has already been shown – the Englishman did not want to apologize to the coach for his behavior and attitude towards training, the coach himself was not going to give back after the decisions made. The same Dortmund team are determined to keep the returning footballer – but they were not noticed in serious spending on players. Young people and football players who need a second chance are the elements of the “black and yellows”. The club is ready to allocate up to 35 million euros for Sancho’s transfer – however, there are other obstacles. Among them is the player’s huge salary. At Manchester United, the financial realities are completely different, so Jadon will inevitably have to lower his demands.
Coaching changes could make a difference
The question is where the coaching change will take place. Ten Hag’s position at United is considered strong, although the Mancunians continue to be in a fever. Still, the coach must have a minimum task, in case of non-fulfillment of which he will be shown the way out. The Red Devils have already failed in the Champions League, are struggling for European competition (they can’t overtake Tottenham, and Villa, from the Champions League zone, is even further), and are advancing in the FA Cup. It is logical to assume that if ten Hag does not bring the trophy, and the club does not finish in the top 5 in the championship, there will be consequences. And in this case, it is better for Sancho’s finances to return – there will be no threat of a salary reduction.
But if the Englishman is ready for a move, Dortmund looks like the best option. Here the winger started playing at the adult level and got on the radar of the European giants. In addition, in a team, competition will be weaker and the level of trust will be greater. This is a favorable environment for a player with a complex character. Another thing is that here, too, changes may occur on the coaching bridge. Edin Terzic’s position is as precarious as Borussia itself. She is spectacular in the Champions League and has reached the quarterfinals and will meet Atlético. But in the Bundesliga everything is very difficult. The team has been in a fever for too long – and only now has it reached the Champions League zone. At the same time, stagnation against the backdrop of last year’s fight for the championship is obvious. The Black and Yellows continue to make mistakes in unnecessary cases (1:1 with Wolfsburg, 2:3 with Hoffenheim).
The club’s general director, Hans-Joachim Watzke, supported the coach previously – but this support is weakening amid instability and weak attacking play. At the same time, Dortmund are eyeing Nagelsmann – and it is extremely interesting how Terzic’s potential resignation will affect Sancho’s prospects.
