A new thrill ride set to debut in 2026 at Six Flags Over Texas will draw inspiration from the adrenaline-fueled San Fermin festival, known for its iconic bull runs. The attraction, dubbed “Tormenta,” promises to be a record-breaking experience, sparking both excitement and controversy.
A Texas-Sized Tribute to Pamplona
While the San Fermin festival is deeply rooted in the Spanish city of Pamplona, the spirit of the event – a “storm of intense emotions,” as the park describes it – is headed to the Lone Star State. Six Flags Over Texas has announced the construction of “Tormenta,” a roller coaster designed to replicate the thrill of a bull run within a recreated ‘typical Spanish’ town.
Construction on the project has already begun, as reported by content creator Dramario on his TikTok account. The ride is being built by the same manufacturer responsible for popular attractions like Shambala and Dragon Khan at PortAventura in Spain, and Superman and Arkham at Warner Park in Madrid, signaling a commitment to high-quality, innovative design.
Record-Breaking Specs and a Unique Ride Experience
“Tormenta” is poised to be an imposing structure, reaching a height of 94 meters and achieving speeds of up to 140 kilometers per hour. According to Dramario, the coaster will feature a near-vertical drop of 95 degrees and boast two of the largest inversions globally, potentially breaking six world records.
What sets this coaster apart is its unique pre-drop sequence. As Dramario explains, “the attraction is characterized by the train staying stuck at the top of the drop for a few seconds before releasing you into the void,” building anticipation and mirroring the tense moments before a bull run.
Controversy and Animal Rights Concerns
The project has not been without its critics. The animal rights organization PETA has voiced concerns that the coaster’s theme “glorifies the torment of bulls” and has requested a change in the attraction’s setting.
However, the park has responded by stating its intention is to portray the bull as the hero of the story, aiming to shift the narrative surrounding the traditional event. The debate highlights the ongoing tension between cultural traditions and modern ethical considerations.
