Kim Sang-wook Shatters Asian League Ice Hockey Scoring Record

A remarkable feat of consistency and skill has propelled Korean ice hockey star Kim Sang-wook to the top of the Asian League’s all-time scoring charts. The 37-year-old forward etched his name into league history on January 11, 2026, surpassing the previous record held by retired Japanese player Daisuke Obara.

A Legacy Fifteen Years in the Making

Kim Sang-wook reached a career total of 573 points – comprised of 154 goals and an impressive 419 assists – during the 28th regular season home game against the Red Eagles Hokkaido at Anyang HL Ice Rink. This milestone arrives 15 years and one month after his professional debut in December 2010, a testament to his enduring dedication and performance. He eclipsed the former record of 572 points (227 goals, 345 assists) established by Obara.

Game-Winning Goal Seals Historic Night

Playing as a first-line center, Kim Sang-wook secured the record-breaking point with a decisive goal at 15 minutes and 9 seconds into the second period. The goal extended HL Anyang’s lead to 2-0. A well-placed return pass from Kim Gun-woo allowed Kim Sang-wook to unleash a powerful one-timer snapshot from the right side of the goal crease, finding the back of the net.

Consistency Defines a Champion

Beyond the record itself, observers have highlighted Kim Sang-wook’s remarkable consistency as a defining characteristic of his career. Even in the later stages of his career, he continues to demonstrate elite-level skills. He recently earned his second Most Valuable Player (MVP) award last season and currently leads the league in scoring with 39 points (16 goals, 23 assists) through 28 games this season.

“I was determined to win in order to end the losing streak in the first home game of the new year,” Kim Sang-wook stated after the game. “I was able to set a record thanks to the manager and coaches who guided me and my teammates who helped me.”

HL Anyang Secures Victory, Eyes Japan Road Trip

HL Anyang ultimately defeated the Red Eagles 2-1, thanks in large part to Kim Sang-wook’s pivotal goal. The win solidifies their position in second place in the league standings with 59 points (20 wins, 8 losses). The team is now preparing for a four-game road trip to Japan, beginning on January 24th.
