He pyrotechnic sector foresees increase sales this Sant Joan by 10% with respect to the year 2022 and reach 20 million euros in turnover. The collective assures that the values achieved in the previous campaign already equaled those before the pandemic, which is why they have already completely turned the page. This year, despite the rains recorded in May and in the first few days of June, they are concentrating their efforts on raising awareness of the need to launch material with the corresponding distances from the wooded areas, of 500 meters, for avoid fires in the midst of a drought. However, they insist that you must always buy products from official points of sale to avoid purchasing products in poor condition or defective.

Pyrotechnics professionals predict a good record of sales, after that by 2022 values similar to those of 2019 would have been reached, the last year before the pandemic. “We hope to surpass last year’s data by 10% and reach a turnover of 20 million euros”, the president of the Association of Manufacturers and Wholesalers of Pyrotechnics of Catalonia, Josep Maria Vilardell, explains to ACN .

The sector has noticed an upward trend in recent years to acquire luminous products, such as fountains, but also batteries, which launch the pyrotechnic material straight, while thunderbolts and rockets continue to maintain sales, but in lesser extent “We have also reduced the flyers a bit, we are trying to advise the batteries out of respect for the forests, we do not want to eliminate product, but the trend is towards products with less noise”, he adds.

Depending on the store, and coinciding with the consolidation of light products, specific products linked to local elements have been created. An example is Petards 4×4, located in Sabadell, which for years has marketed a line of products dedicated to monuments, groups and spaces in the city, such as Can Feu Castle, the Sabadell Sports Center or the Witches of the North.

“This year we created a fountain dedicated to the triceratops fossil from the Palaeontology Museum of Sabadell,” explains Sandra Córcoles, manager of the business, who studied Geology and wanted to pay tribute to an emblematic figure of the city.

Fire and drought

Although it rained consistently in May and this June is expected to continue the trend, the drought situation means that forests can take the brunt of it with minimal spark. For this reason, the association, in collaboration with Civil Protection, has established a series of tips to minimize the risk of fire this Sant Joan campaign.

“It must be remembered that it is forbidden to launch rockets less than 500 meters from a forest, and we recommend launching them on paved surfaces to avoid burning anything,” notes Vilardell.
