“We were trying to add speed to the game through counterattacks, so Henrikh Mkhitaryan played from the front. It worked to some extent, there were moments, but the skill wasn’t enough to capitalize on those moments. It seems to me that the first half worked. I saw everything I wanted to see. Of course, it didn’t work out completely, because we were playing against a strong team like France.
There were shortcomings. it was not our boys’ fault, but the French team’s fault, because the quality was too high in some lines. Our guys didn’t make it, it’s normal because the French national team players are used to high-tempo games, and we had players who were participating in this kind of tournament for the first time and it was a bit unusual for them.
