Sargis Israelyan, the president of “Banants” football club, resigned today. He spoke about the reasons for his decision in a statement published on the club’s official website. We present it in its entirety to the attention of our readers.
“Dear football fans, fans of the Banants football team.
Another football championship ended, another page of history was turned for “Banants” football club. Unfortunately, this season the team performed very poorly and ended up at the back of the league. Having a history rich in good traditions, today it turned out what it turned out to be.
The history of “Banants” club begins in 1992.
Armenia had just gained its independence, and it was decided to hold an independent football championship of Armenia, because the country had rich pages of football history. Being a fan of one of the most popular games in the world, football, and a fan of the legendary “Ararat” football team, I decided to invest my abilities, opportunities and resources to create a team that would include those players who were once excluded from the “Ararat” team for various reasons. They were really high-class football players, endowed not only with high professionalism but also with human qualities, I knew them since childhood and I was sure that they can perform at the highest level and in the highest-class teams.
In 1992, the team was created and named after my birthplace – “Banants” at my suggestion.
The team, thanks to the boys’ enthusiasm, patriotism and talents in their work, in the same year, 1992. In May, he became the first cup winner of Armenia and the bronze medal winner of the national championship.
The newly formed team, taking part in the championship of the Republic of Armenia, performing with an upswing, wrote its brilliant name in the history of Armenian football, becoming one of its leaders.
Taking a look at the team’s performances and results, it becomes clear why “Banants” managed to win the hearts of the fans.
For many years, under my sponsorship and leadership, the team has shown a stable, technically competent game, and according to various experts, “Banants” was one of the strongest football teams in Armenia in those years.
Later, the difficult social and economic situation of the country also affected the activities of the Banants team. After a short hiatus, to the delight of me and the fans of the team, the club has experienced a renaissance thanks to a well-known patriotic philanthropist sponsor in the world of football. He was ready to invest his personal funds in the development of Armenian football. I am very grateful to him for trusting me to continue leading the club. My only request was to keep the name of the club. It was accepted by him with understanding.
Excited by the changes, the club set itself the task of achieving the highest goals with the new programs and therefore strived for high professionalism at all levels. The high places taken by the team in the championships and the created substructures, where 600 children of different ages can be involved and play football, can be considered typical indicators. The club has continuously pursued the right policy in the development of football. It is true that there may have been apparent shortcomings, but its results will be seen later, it takes time.
Over the years, “Banants” has given many graduates who were included and are still included in the composition of various teams of the republic. Today, many graduates of the club play in different teams of the country. This proves that the club has done a great job in the development and establishment of Armenian football. 2012 the club created its own youth football academy, where well-known football specialists from Holland were invited to exchange experience, the construction of the sports field was completed, and all infrastructures necessary for the development of football were created.
Now the academy is fully operational.
Being the president of the club, I worked to preserve the traditions, I always urged the coaching staff to strive for perfection, I was involved in the training of young professionals.
Against the background of the club’s successes, I consider the unsuccessful performances of the “Banants” team in this year’s football league championship unforgivable. I don’t want to point out anyone’s mistakes here, the flaws in the work. I believe that being the president of the club, I should not fail in some aspects of my work that led to what we have.
Again and again I want to give special thanks to the sponsor of the club for trusting me. I have performed my duties conscientiously, justifying his trust.
I want to thank all the people who always supported me, helped me in difficult moments to realize all our ideas. Rest assured, we have all done a lot of patriotic work, the results of which, I’m sure, will be appreciated in the future.
Based on all of this and taking into account the objective and subjective reasons for the failures of the Banants team, I take full responsibility and am ready to resign from my duties.
I undertake to inform the sponsor of the club and the staff of the club about all this in the near future.
I want to apologize to all football fans, fans of Banants team for today’s failures.
At the same time, I am proud of the establishment of the club, I am proud that I was able to uphold the name of the club, that I participated in the development of Armenian football, I am proud that I fulfilled all my duties conscientiously.
