Four million euros. This is the value of the loot from yesterday morning’s assault on three Vigilpol armored vehicles, carried out on Wednesday 31 January by an armed commando of at least 10 people along state road 131, in the province of Sassari. According to the initial findings of the security company and the investigators, the bandits managed to take away the cash from two of the three armored vehicles blocked on the highway. At dawn on Thursday 1 February the agents of the Sassari Flying Squad, assisted by sections of other police stations on the island, carried out searches in various houses attributable to people suspected of being linked to the commando.

Other searches were carried out yesterday late in the evening and the investigators are maintaining the utmost confidentiality regarding the outcome for now. The robbery was carried out shortly after 8 am yesterday morning, along state road 131, at the crossroads for Siligo. The commando, made up of at least 10 people, stopped vehicles in transit on the 4 lanes, threatening motorists with Kalashnikovs, they also spread chains and sprinkled nails on the asphalt.

About two kilometers from the blocks the robbers waited for the column of three Vigilpol armored vehicles to pass, and stopped them with a garbage truck placed across the road. The bandits, armed with Kalashnikovs, then opened fire on the vehicles, hitting one of the security guards in the legs. Another security guard, who was driving the first armored vehicle, was seriously injured following the collision with the compactor and the collision with the other vans. Two other security guards were bruised on the head and chest, again due to the collision. The robbers opened two armored vehicles and the safes with circular saws and escaped with the huge loot, after setting fire to several vehicles to cover their escape.
