The Champions League does not stop providing surprises every season and tonight (Wednesday) we were not far from a huge sensation. Bayern Munich trailed until the 90th minute against the humble Red Bull Salzburg, for which it is their first ever appearance in the Champions League quarter-finals, but in the end the German champions squeezed a dramatic 1: 1.

Julian Naglesman’s players clearly dominated but the defense again faked and after the embarrassing 4: 2 loss to Bochum, it was not far from suffering a second consecutive loss for the first time this season. Despite a wonderful goalkeeping display by Swiss Philippe Con, the Austrian network moved just before the end and perhaps the biggest victory in the team’s history was avoided by the local crowd at the last minute.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Serge Gnabry got himself booked. In the 12th minute, the first turn of the game came, when Noa Okapur, who has three goals in the Champions League this season, was injured and had to end the match. His replacement was 20-year-old Austrian Tchaikovica Adamo. Nine minutes passed, and the striker got a wonderful wide ball from Brandon Aronson and released a sharp kick to the right corner of Ulreich, who failed to save.

After going down to the break with a particularly surprising lag, Bayern exerted very heavy pressure on the Austrian goal, especially in the last quarter of an hour, including some big misses. In the end, precisely after a fantastic opportunity for Salzburg to score the 0: 2 and end the game, the long-awaited equalizer came from the feet of Kingsley Koeman, who enjoyed the cooking of who but Thomas Müller.
