Schneider Electric has agreed to acquire the U.S. software group PTC for $22.6 billion in an all-cash deal expected to close by the third quarter of 2027.

France’s Schneider Electric announced an all-cash agreement to purchase U.S. software group PTC for $205 per share, valuing the company’s equity at approximately $22.6 billion.

Some analysts called the move “opportunistic” due to the recent de-rating of industrial software firms. It follows a history of similar expansion efforts by Schneider, including previous bids for Aveva and Bentley Systems.

Euro Hits 17-Month Low Amid Fiscal Strain

The euro hit a 17-month low against the U.S. dollar, falling to levels not seen since May 19, 2025, as the acquisition was announced. This decline occurs as the euro zone grapples with a simultaneous rise in inflation, interest rates, and government borrowing costs. Barclays economists warned that France’s volatile fiscal and political outlook continues to cloud the euro area outlook.

U.S. Equity Futures Hold Steady

U.S. equity futures remained largely flat as the week began. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 53 points, or 0.1%, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures each rose 0.1%. The 10-year Treasury yield climbed to its highest level in over two decades.

Tech stocks, led by Nvidia’s recent intraday record, continue to provide a narrow base of leadership. Gary Schlossberg, global strategist at the Wells Fargo Investment Institute, indicated that investors are currently focused on shifting geopolitical and market developments ahead of the unofficial start of the reporting season, which kicks off with results from JPMorgan on October 13. Other scheduled earnings this week include Constellation Brands, Levi Strauss, PepsiCo, and Delta Air Lines.

Global Markets Post Mixed Results

The FTSE 100 rose 0.45%, while France’s CAC 40 added 0.15% in Paris. In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed 2.40% higher at 69,946.86, while Australia’s benchmark S&P/ASX 200 ended flat at 8,686.40.
