Karina Schönmaier has been named Germany’s Gymnast of the Year for women, surpassing reigning Olympic champion Darya Varfolomeev in a closely contested vote. Schönmaier secured 38.96% of the votes, pushing Varfolomeev to second place with 31.85%. Helen Kevric rounded out the top three.

“This is a nice recognition at the end of my career, which I’m very happy about,” Toba said. “I’ve had a lot of ups and downs over the time. The fact that I was able to end my career with silver at the European Championships in my own country means a lot to me.” The award recognizes not only his recent success but also his enduring contribution to German gymnastics.
