Chengalpattu: The court has acquitted all the 8 accused in the case of the death of girl Sruthi after falling from the pothole of the school bus.

In 2012, a girl, Sruthi, who was traveling in a private school bus operating at Selaiyur near Tambaram, fell through a hole in it and died.

A case was registered in this regard and was going on for more than 10 years. In this, the Chengalpattu Additional Sessions Court has acquitted all the 8 accused persons.

How did the incident happen?

Sruthi, a schoolgirl, fell through a hole under the seat of a private school bus and died after getting caught in the wheel of the bus.

Sruthi (7), daughter of an auto driver, Sethumadavan, who lived in Bharadwaj Nagar 6th flat in Varadarajapuram Transport Corporation housing next to Madichurai, Chennai. Selaiyur was studying in 2nd standard at Sion Matriculation Higher Secondary School.

On the day of the incident, when Sruthi was going home in the bus after school, the cover placed to cover the hole under the seat came off and Sruthi fell into it. In this, he got stuck in the rear wheel of the bus and died on the spot.

Unaware of this, the bus driver Seaman was driving the bus, but the motorists chased the bus and caught it. In a fit of rage, people attacked the bus driver and set the bus on fire. This incident shook not only Chennai but entire Tamil Nadu. It is noteworthy that only after this incident, various mechanisms were introduced to ensure the safety of students traveling in school buses.
