Scientists have discovered a new mineral in Kamchatka

Employees of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported the discovery of a new hitherto unknown mineral in Kamchatka, which was named kufarite.

As specified, this mineral, which contains platinum, was discovered by scientists in the Koryak-Kamchatka platinum-bearing belt. The mineral is named kufarite in honor of Farid Shakirovich Kutyev, a famous Soviet and Russian scientist who studied volcanology and ore genesis.

According to scientists, the new mineral has a simple chemical composition: PtPb – platinum-lead.
