Scientists have found an antibody that protects against all mutations of the coronavirus

Scientists at the University of Washington School of Medicine in the American city of St. Louis have discovered an antibody that can neutralize all known coronavirus mutations. The results of the study are published on the website of the School of Medicine.

The experts examined 43 antibody samples and tested how well they protect against the original SARS-CoV-2 variant. The nine most powerful particles were tested in rodents, then the most effective were again selected.

It turned out that the SARS2-38 antibody can fight both common variants of the coronavirus (alpha, beta, gamma, delta, kappa and iota), and more rare mutations. SARS2-38 attaches to a part of the virus protein that does not change with mutations. Also among its unique properties is its high ability to neutralize the virus even at low concentrations.

The researchers concluded that due to the emergence of new mutations, effective neutralizing antibodies are needed that can maintain immunity on their own and in combination with therapy.
