Scientists have “increased” the chances of habitability of planets in the TRAPPIST-1 system

by time news

Swiss scientists have suggested that TRAPPIST-1’s outbursts support long-term geological activity on rocky planets in its orbit. According to astrophysicists, this suggests that the planets are habitable.

Previously, outbreaks, on the contrary, were considered one of the arguments in favor of the fact that the planets are uninhabited, since under their influence the atmosphere can collapse.

It is assumed that the most promising for the search for life are exoplanets in the so-called habitable zone of their star, that is, at a distance from the star, at which water can be in liquid form, without freezing or evaporating. On some of the seven planets in the TRAPPIST-1 system, this condition is met.
