Scots College Tradition Under Investigation After Student Assault

An investigation is underway after a 17-year-old student at Scots College in Bellevue Hill, Sydney, was allegedly assaulted during a long-standing school tradition. The incident, described by the student’s mother as a deeply humiliating ordeal, occurred off-campus near Woollahra Golf Course in Rose Bay on Saturday afternoon.

Police confirmed they commenced an investigation after receiving reports of an assault at a sports ground on Manion Avenue in Rose Bay.

Alleged “Bob 2025” Ritual Involved Humiliation and Assault

The mother, identified as Trish, detailed the events in an interview with Ben Fordham’s 2GB breakfast program, describing a ritual known as “Bob 2025” – reportedly a biannual tradition for boys in years 10 to 12. According to Trish, her son was pressured into attending the event, being told it was an “expectation” that all students participate to show support.

“He was lured there and pressured into going,” Trish stated. “He was told that it was an expectation that he’d be there, and all of the boys needed to be there to show support.”

Upon arrival, Trish alleges her son was subjected to a brutal ordeal. He was forced to walk through a human tunnel while being ridiculed and physically assaulted.

“When he got there, he was set upon by this group,” Trish recounted. “They handed him a flag and they ridiculed him. Poured beer over his hair, pulled his shirt, the beer was burning his eyes, all his shoulders, and bruises all over him, and just absolutely humiliated him, laughing and taunting him, calling him disgusting names that I don’t think he will ever forget.”

The mother further described how her son was chased from the park by a group of boys before being assisted by a local woman. “The lady, who is a guardian angel, got him and took him to her house and waited there til police arrived. She encouraged him to call the police and to stay on the phone to me, to talk to me until, until I got there, and the police were there.”

School Responds, Investigation Continues

Trish stated she contacted school staff and provided videos of the incident to three members of the teaching staff, including Headmaster Dr. Ian Lambert. As of yesterday, she had not received a direct response from Dr. Lambert. However, the Head of the Senior School contacted her and indicated a willingness to cooperate with the police investigation, offering to help identify the students involved.

“I had the head of the senior school contact me yesterday,” Trish said. “He said that he is willing to work with the detective to name some of the boys in this clip.”

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the alleged assault. The incident raises serious questions about the nature of school traditions and the responsibility of educational institutions to ensure the safety and well-being of their students. The long-term psychological impact on the victim remains a significant concern.
