How Frank became a writer
Frank is not only a screenwriter and director, but also a writer. In 2016, his first and so far only novel, Shaker, was released, a crime drama set in Los Angeles a few days after a massive earthquake. He began to work on the idea of the novel back in 1994. Writing was for him a “warm-up for the mind” – a way to spend a pleasant time to distract himself from the next script.
“I wrote a hundred pages, taking 20 minutes from script work. But then he forgot about the novel for many years, – he told the blog Slashfilm. – I had one of the other three children, there was a mortgage, schools for which you had to pay. Before starting A Walk Among the Graves (2016), he returned to the book. Frank decided that he had to make a choice: will writing remain a hobby or will it become something more? He sent the manuscript to an editor he knew, asking him to be honest – should he finish his work or throw it in the trash? He praised the work, and Frank went in search of a publisher.
