Seat will finally not produce Skoda’s urban electric car

In addition to this development, Seat won the contract for its production in Martorell, while Volkswagen Navarra was going to be in charge of producing new small electric SUVs also based on this platform for the Volkswagen and Skoda brands.

Martorell will produce electric SUVs

This change will mean a productive adjustment within the factory of Martorell between 80.000 y 90.000 units annual from 2028. According to initial information, they will be transferred to Martorell, in compensation mode, between 40,000 and 50,000 units of these SUVs, which will begin to be produced in 2026. These units will not be a great detriment to the Navarra plant, because they will be the ones that could only have been produced by activating all the flexibility mechanisms and the weekend shifts. However, these units will not compensate, for the Seat factory, all the production of the Skoda that finally will not manufacture.

After these decisions, from Volkswagen Navarrawhere they produce T-Cross, the Taigo and the Polowarn of lack of production from 2026 to maintain the current situation of the factory. As explained by the Automotive TribuneCiting unidentified industry sources, the factory will have no production problems as of that date, but will have a reduction in workforce needs as a result of its electrification.

For his part, from Martorell transfer the concern as a result of the lack of activity once the life cycle of the León and of Cupra Formentor in between 2027 y 2028 and ask the Volkswagen Group another electric platform to compensate for the loss of units after the end of production of the two aforementioned models. In any case, the German consortium will not decide on new awards until the end of next year.
