A Championship Pedigree
Pocognoli arrives in Monaco having established himself as a highly effective manager in the Belgian Pro League. He quickly made an impact at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, distinguished by a commitment to both results and an attractive, ambitious style of play. In his first season with RUSG, the 38-year-old Walloon technician secured both the Belgian Super Cup and the Belgian championship, ending a 90-year title drought for the club.
“Poco” led the Union to a historic campaign in the Champions’ Play-offs, accumulating an impressive 28 points from a possible 30 and surpassing rivals Club Bruges. This success underscored his tactical acumen and ability to galvanize a team.
European Success and Individual Recognition
The 2024-2025 season further cemented Pocognoli’s reputation. Despite a play-off stage exit in the Europa League against Ajax Amsterdam, his team secured a Champions League qualification spot. A standout moment came with a remarkable 3-1 victory against PSV Eindhoven, demonstrating the Union’s ability to compete on the European stage.

He began his coaching journey in the summer of 2021, initially working with the U21s of Union Saint-Gilloise. He then gained further experience with the U18s of KRC Genk and the Belgian national U18 selection, demonstrating a commitment to developing young talent.
