Quito, Ecuador.- “The Vice Presidency of the Republic has not been raided and it is not a procedural part of the case that the Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating,” said lawyer René Zúñiga, Secretary General and official spokesperson for the institution, at a press conference.

Furthermore, he stressed that within the framework of the investigations, the Vice Presidency will provide all the facilities for the truth to be known because “within the institution there has been no case that should be investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office.”

Regarding the former official who filed the complaint for an alleged crime of influence peddling, René Zúñiga clarified that the citizen was separated from the institution at the beginning of February due to the restructuring process ordered through Executive Decree 30 and supervised by the Ministry of Job.

The Secretary General reported that the Vice Presidency is immersed in the restructuring process, which has respected and guaranteed the labor rights of all officials. In addition, he highlighted that within the new structure no official will earn more than 3 thousand dollars. Currently the institution has 77 employees and a new reduction is expected within the framework of the restructuring.

Zúñiga stated that the Vice President of the Republic, Verónica Abad, has maintained open communication with all officials and that “the processes within the institution have been transparent, without pressure of any kind on the staff.

Finally, lawyer René Zúñiga informed the public that the Ministry of Labor discharged on the Vice Presidency the responsibility of covering the salary and emoluments of the vice president abroad, which caused Verónica Abad not to receive her salary for two months. and even remain on foreign soil without life insurance.

According to the jurist, a possible return of the second president is unknown and given that her position is governed by LOSEP and LOSE regulations, her return should be authorized in both regimes, if there is a formal request on her part.
