A security guard near Oslo Central Station is in serious condition after being attacked Wednesday evening, Norwegian police reported. The incident occurred as the guard intervened in a confrontation between two individuals pursuing a third person, according to authorities.
Police were alerted to the situation shortly after 10:30 PM local time. Operasjonsleder Tor Gulbrandsen of the Oslo Police District confirmed that the guard was assaulted by two individuals who subsequently fled the scene. The guard sustained injuries from both punches and kicks, including blows to the head, and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
The initial investigation suggests the guard attempted to de-escalate a situation where two people were chasing another individual. “The guard tried to intervene in an incident where two men were after a third person. They then turned on the guard instead,” Gulbrandsen stated to VG, a Norwegian news outlet. Police are currently searching for the two assailants and are gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage from the area.
Guard Intervened in Pursuit, Police Say
According to preliminary witness statements, the security guard observed two individuals running after a third person and stepped in to separate them. This intervention led to the assault on the guard. The identity of the individuals involved, and the reason for the initial pursuit, remain unknown as of late Wednesday night. Police have stated they are in contact with the person who was initially being pursued, but have not yet established a motive for the incident.
“The injured party is seriously injured, but conscious,” police reported in a press statement. The severity of the guard’s injuries has not been detailed beyond confirmation of blows to the head, and body. Authorities have described the situation as a serious incident and are dedicating significant resources to the investigation.
Search Underway for Assailants
Oslo police have launched a search for the two men responsible for the attack. Descriptions of the suspects remain vague at this time, hindering the search efforts. “We have a good number of patrols in the area now, working on the case,” Gulbrandsen said. Investigators are appealing to the public for any information that might aid in identifying and locating the individuals involved.
The incident occurred in a busy area near Oslo S, the city’s central train station, raising concerns about safety and security in the area. While police have not indicated any broader threat, the attack has prompted increased police presence in the vicinity.
Previous Incident Involving Air Pistol
This incident comes just over eight months after another incident in Oslo involving a weapon. In July 2025, a man was apprehended in Vaterlandsparken after brandishing what was later determined to be an air pistol, as reported by VG. While unrelated to the current assault, the incident highlights ongoing concerns about public safety in the city center.
Police are urging anyone with information about Wednesday’s attack to come forward. They are particularly interested in any video footage or eyewitness accounts that could assist in the investigation.
Authorities have not provided a timeline for when they expect to create an arrest in the case. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as they become available. The next official update from the Oslo Police District is expected Thursday morning.
