Young graduates wishing to strike out on their own or experienced employees looking for flexibility, many of them choose to be their own boss. There were 4.3 million self-employed workers in France, including 56.2% self-employed, at the end of 2022 (according to Urssaf data published in December 2023). A figure which is growing less quickly than between 2018 and 2021, but still up 5.9%. However, freedom does not exclude prudence and anticipation. A Sunday morning football match that ends with a sprained ankle can leave a VTC driver immobile for several weeks. Or, voiceless trainers will be unable to deliver their session, in person or remotely!

All employees are covered by complementary health insurance, their company being obliged to offer them one. To cope with medical costs that are less and less well covered by health insurance, the self-employed and self-employed must consider subscribing to mutual insurance, unless self-employment constitutes a secondary activity and they already benefit from that of their main employer.
