Presidential election this Sunday, March 24 in Senegal. In Kankan, the second largest city in Guinea, the Kabada 1 primary school located in the city center houses the only polling station.

Nationals from the country of Teranga are going there to elect the successor to President Macky Sall, reports our correspondent based in Kankan.

This Sunday, March 24, the Senegalese are mobilizing to elect their new President of the Republic. In Kankan, there are 29 nationals registered on the electoral list. Since the polling station opened at 8 a.m., they have been trickling in to fulfill their civic duty. According to Makhtar Niass, the representative of the Senegalese in Nabaya, the atmosphere is good-natured:

“There is no problem, we have been voting since morning, people come and leave. The security forces are there to keep us safe. The day before last night, the embassy came to my house, we went to see the prefect and the governor. And from there we went to see the commissioner who sent us 4 of his elements,” he reassured.

Who among the 17 candidates in the running will succeed Macky Sall? For Aliou Diaw, representative of a political coalition, the answer is clear, it is Diomaye Faye, the candidate supported by Ousmane Sonko.

“The Senegal of Macky Sall, that of Abdoulaye Wade and that of Abdoul Diouf, it’s not the same thing. There is no Senegalese president who has tired us more than him. Diomaye and Sonko are the same thing, we must sanction Macky Sall’s regime at the polls, that’s all I want,” he said.

Recent months have been marked by numerous demonstrations in Senegal, the election of Macky Sall’s successor will certainly ease tensions.
