Mumbai: The Sensex fell 87 points (0.14 per cent) to close at 61,663 at the close of trading on the BSE today. Meanwhile, the National Stock Exchange Nifty fell 36 points (0.2 per cent) to 18,307.
The weekend opened on Friday with Sensex up 50 points. But immediately the market started to move towards the decline. As of 09:55 am, the Sensex was down 108.52 points at 61,642.08. The National Stock Exchange fell 26.35 points to 18,317.55.
Indian stocks ended lower on Friday due to jittery trends in global markets and expectations that the Fed may raise interest rates again. The Sensex fell 87.12 points to 61,663.48 by the end of the trading hours. The NSE Nifty fell 36.25 points to 18,307.65.
In terms of individual stocks, Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paints and HDFC were the gainers. At the other end, shares of Reliance Industries, L&T, Tata Steels, Nedlay India, Wipro, ITC and M&M declined.
