To be eligible to receive unemployment benefits, you must have contributed for at least one year. However, people who have worked for a shorter period – specifically, less than 360 days – and have been left homeless can access unemployment benefits.

The duration of this aid, explains the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), will depend on the number of months of contributions, and whether or not the beneficiary has family responsibilities. The organization remembers that the contributions taken into account to recognize the subsidy will not count for future contributory benefits.

Requirements

The requirements to access the subsidy are the following:

-Being unemployed and legally unemployed.

-Register as a job seeker and maintain said registration throughout the period of receiving the aid. In addition, the activity agreement must be signed, a written agreement between the public employment services and the worker that includes the rights and obligations of both parties to increase the employability of the unemployed.

-Have contributed unemployment benefits for at least three months (if you have family responsibilities) or six months (if there are any), and not reach 360 days. If this last figure is reached, the beneficiary will be entitled to a contributory benefit.

-Not receiving income (full or gross) of any type greater than 75% of the Minimum Interprofessional Salary (SMI) without counting the proportional part of two extraordinary payments. The monthly SMI reaches 1,080 euros this year.

People over 52 years of age who are entitled to a subsidy will receive a specific one for those of that age.

Duration and amount

The period during which the subsidy will be collected will depend on the number of months of contributions, and whether or not the beneficiary has family responsibilities.

-If there are any, the subsidy will last 3, 4 or 5 months when contributions have been made during those respective periods of time. After six months of contributions, the aid will be collected for 21 months. In any case, the right to the subsidy will be recognized for six months and may be extended for similar periods until its final duration.

-If there are no family responsibilities, the subsidy will be collected for 6 months if contributions have been made for at least that same number of months.

The amount is equal to 80% of the Multiple Effects Public Income Indicator (Iprem). This year it is set at 600 euros per month, so the subsidy will be 480 euros.

In the event that the person has lost a part-time job, this amount will be received in proportion to the hours previously worked in their last contract.

The payment of the subsidy will be made in monthly installments of 30 days, between the 10th and 15th of the month following the one in which the accrual corresponds.
