American Conference Announces September Tennis Standouts, ITA Rankings Released
The American Conference recognized outstanding performances in men’s and women’s tennis for the month of September, while the latest ITA preseason rankings showcased the league’s rising talent.
IRVING, Texas – The American Conference announced its men’s and women’s tennis Players of the Month on Thursday, celebrating exceptional early-season performances.The conference also released a snapshot of its players’ positioning in the ITA preseason rankings, highlighting the growing strength of collegiate tennis programs within the league.
Petro Kuzmenok Named Men’s Player of the month
Petro Kuzmenok, a junior from Rice University, earned the distinction as the Men’s Player of the Month. Kuzmenok began the season with an remarkable 8-1 record in singles play, highlighted by a championship title at the Rice Invite. He defeated two ranked opponents during the tournament, including No. 87 Boris Popovic of SMU,and secured wins against players from Texas A&M and Baylor. Kuzmenok also contributed to a strong doubles performance, achieving a 6-2 record alongside teammate Santiago Navarro.
Xin Tong Wang Secures Women’s Player of the Month Honors
On the women’s side, Xin Tong wang, a junior from Wichita State, was named Player of the Month. Ranked No. 73 nationally in the ITA preseason rankings, Wang made history as the first Wichita State player to compete in – and win – a match in the singles main draw of the ITA All-American Championships. She achieved this milestone with a decisive 7-6 (2), 6-2 victory over the nation’s No. 19-ranked player in the opening round. Wang was the sole American Conference player to secure a main-draw singles win at the tournament, adding to her accomplishments with two qualifying wins in doubles.
