MADRID, Spain – Football legend Sergio Ramos is aiming for the stars, literally. The 39-year-old defender, now captain of Liga MX club Monterrey, candidly stated he believes he’ll win a Grammy Award before he lifts the Champions League as a coach.

## Ramos Eyes Grammy Before Coaching Glory

Sergio Ramos drops debut single, eyes music awards and coaching success.

  • Sergio Ramos, 39, released his debut single “Cibeles” on Sunday.
  • He expressed confidence in winning a Grammy before a Champions League title as a coach.
  • The song reflects on his departure from Real Madrid in 2021.
  • Ramos plans to be more involved in music in the next 5-7 years.

Speaking on Monday to Spanish television, Ramos shared his dual ambitions. “I’m an optimist,” he said. “I always tell people to dream.” He envisions achieving both a Champions League coaching victory and a Grammy win in the coming years.

Ramos’s first single, “Cibeles,” named after the iconic Madrid fountain, was released Sunday. The lyrics touch upon his emotional exit from Real Madrid in 2021. He spent last weekend playing in Monterrey’s 4-2 victory at Puebla.

### A Song of Heartbreak and Hope

The song’s lyrics reveal a deep-seated pain from his departure. “There are things I never told you, that still hurt me,” the lyrics state. “I never wanted to leave… It’s a good thing I left, because you didn’t treat me the same.” He further laments, “You forgot about me, you left me to one side… Without being able to decide, that’s what hurts me most.”

Ramos explained his motivation. “It’s a love song. What relationship doesn’t involve pain and suffering?” he mused. He confessed to writing 60% of the song during his time in Paris because of these feelings. “Nobody likes leaving the biggest club in the world,” he added.

His musical journey, he shared, stems from a lifelong passion. “It’s been a part of my whole life,” Ramos said, noting that football commitments previously limited his ability to pursue music. He now hopes to transition more into music, aiming to combine it with his football career.

Ramos’s illustrious Real Madrid career saw him win 22 trophies, including the 2014 Champions League final where he scored a dramatic 93rd-minute equalizer against Atlético Madrid. His departure from the club in 2021 came after a contract extension offer was withdrawn. He subsequently played for Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla before joining Monterrey.

The video for “Cibeles” depicts a symbolic crumbling of the Cibeles statue and Madrid’s town hall, representing his past ties. Ramos, who has home studios in Seville and Madrid, sees this musical venture as a natural progression. “At this time in life I’d like to combine it with football, to make that transition in the short term,” he stated, keen to share his experiences through music.
