The EU’s antitrust legislation, designed to foster competition, recently required Apple to permit third-party app stores within the European Union. Launched initially as a limited beta in the spring of 2024, the service gained wider availability with a full public launch in September 2024. Setapp Mobile distinguished itself by providing access to the paid versions of more than 50 iPhone applications through a unified monthly subscription, eliminating in-app purchases and advertisements.
Now, a notice on a support page announces the impending sunset. “Important: Setapp Mobile sunset notice. Setapp Mobile is scheduled to sunset on February 16, 2026, due to still-evolving and complex business terms that don’t fit Setapp’s current business model,” the announcement reads.
The closure poses a potential inconvenience for users, who may be required to obtain individual subscriptions to the apps they previously accessed through Setapp Mobile to maintain access to their data. Setapp for Mac remains unaffected by this decision.
