Action is being taken by the People’s Court (Lok Adalat) to expedite the completion of cases pending in the courts.
Accordingly, the Lok Adalat (People’s Court) was held yesterday in 5 courts at Nagercoil, Poothapandi, Eraniyal, Kuzhithurai and Thakkala in Kumari district.
A total of 2,207 cases were taken up in the district, including cases related to family welfare, car accident compensation, property issues and check fraud.
Settlement of 1,792 cases
District Judge Arulmurugan inaugurated the proceedings at the Nagercoil Court. District Chief Criminal Judge Mayakrishnan, Legal Services Committee Secretary Nambirajan, Pokcho District Judge Chandra and many others including pro-judges, lawyers, prosecutors and counter-petitioners were present.
Of the cases taken up for hearing, 792 cases have been settled through negotiations. A further Rs. 7 crore 16 lakh 85 thousand 121 was collected and handed over to those concerned.
