Seven people from Maradona’s medical staff are accused of aggravated murder

AGI – The seven members of the health team who had been heard in relation to the investigation into the death of Diego Maradona and so far suspected of manslaughter, could instead be prosecuted for manslaughter with aggravating circumstances and now face 8 to 25 years in prison . It is learned from a judicial source. The Public Prosecutor’s Office of San Isidro (suburb of Buenos Aires), in charge of the investigation, believes that Maradona’s death was the result of professional misconduct and negligence on the part of the medical team and that it caused the deterioration of his health and death. “After so many injustices, the circle has come full circle. The most important thing is the change in the charge of manslaughter with aggravating circumstances,” a person familiar with the case told AFP.

On the basis of the previous crime hypothesis, the seven members of the Maradona medical team risked – in the event of ascertained guilt – sentences ranging from 5 to 15 years in prison. They will be questioned from May 31 by an investigating judge who will then decide whether to indict them or not. According to a judicial source interviewed by AFP, “there is a 99% chance that they will be indicted”.

Maradona, who suffered from kidney, liver and heart problems, died of a heart attack on November 25, 2020, just weeks after undergoing brain surgery for a blood clot. He was 60 years old. This new phase of judicial work follows the publication in early May of a report that the former footballer had been “abandoned to his fate” by his medical team, whose treatment “was inadequate, deficient and reckless”.
