## Copa do Brasil: Seven Teams Advance to Quarter-Finals
RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug 7 (Xinhua) — Seven teams have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil following the conclusion of the second legs of their round-of-16 matches.
Palmeiras secured their place in the next stage with a 1-0 victory over Flamengo at home, despite trailing 2-0 from the first leg. Vitor Reis’ early goal proved insufficient to overturn the deficit.
Meanwhile, league leaders Botafogo were eliminated by Bahia, who won 1-0 at home thanks to Luciano Rodríguez’s goal in the final minutes. The aggregate score finished 2-1 in favor of Bahia.
Fluminense’s hopes of progression ended despite a dramatic comeback against Juventude. Despite trailing 0-2 from the first leg, they managed to equalize in the final minutes through Kaua and Keno. However, goals from Lucas Barbosa and Marcelinho ensured Juventude’s progression.
Athletico Paranaense booked their place in the next round with a 3-2 victory over Bragantino. Goals from Agustín Canobbio, Gonzalo Mastriani, and Fernandinho secured their advancement.
The hosts, São Paulo, will learn their fate tomorrow when they face Goiás in the final return leg. The first leg ended with a 2-0 victory for São Paulo.
Other teams to advance to the quarter-finals are Atlético Mineiro, who defeated CRB 3-0 in the second leg, and Vasco da Gama, who eliminated Atlético Goianiense 1-0 after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
The Copa do Brasil is the second most important tournament in Brazil and guarantees its winner a place in the next Copa Libertadores.
