Severe Winds Force SAS Flight to Turn Back From Oslo to Bergen

by time news

SISTE: SAS’s morning flight from Oslo to Bergen had to turn around and land at Gardermoen.

The plane had to turn back due to strong winds.

This is reported by Bergensavisen, which had a journalist on board the flight.

– The turbulence increased more and more as we got closer to Flesland, says BA journalist Aksel Halmøy.

– There are strong gusts of wind now, and it is impossible for us to land at Flesland, the crew reportedly told the passengers according to BA.

On Monday morning, strong winds are affecting several areas on the West Coast.

– Will arrive on Monday

A low-pressure system named “Ashley” by Irish meteorologists is wreaking havoc this weekend in Great Britain, with wind speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour.

By Monday morning, the low-pressure system will be moving towards Norway, and the strong winds will have reached Vestland county.

This is said by Charalampos Sarchosidis, the duty meteorologist at the Meteorological Institute, to Dagbladet on Sunday evening.

– The worst winds will come early Monday morning around Stad. The low-pressure system will roll along the Norwegian coast and end up in Bodø, so both Nordland and areas south of Bodø will also feel the wind, Sarchosidis says.

Could become a hurricane

An orange warning has been issued for the Stad area tomorrow. Along the west coast, waves could reach up to nine meters.

– There will be measured small to full storm along the west coast, Møre and Romsdal, and up to Nordland. The strongest winds will be measured around Stad. The measuring stations there may register hurricane force winds.

Crisis meeting: Closed

– Do you have any advice for the public?

– Ferry departures risk being canceled, and bridges may be closed. It is advisable to secure loose items. In the mountains, some trees may fall. If you are going to travel, you should stay updated.

There is also expected to be heavy rainfall in Vestland county. In the mountainous areas, there will be strong winds, while significant rainfall is anticipated in the inner parts, Sarchosidis informs.

– It is a powerful low-pressure system. Severe weather is expected. Here in Eastern Norway, it won’t blow as hard – but we can tolerate less here – so many will likely experience strong winds, says the meteorologist.

Worst on Monday

The outer Oslofjord will be particularly affected by strong southwesterly gales.

– This wind moves directly into Østfold, so Monday morning could bring strong winds to several places in Eastern Norway that are not usually accustomed to wind.

Meteorologist: – Danger to life

– How long will the storm last?

– The worst day is Monday. Fortunately, this is a low-pressure system that moves quickly, so by Monday evening, it will have traveled to Nordland, where it will weaken.

The sun peeks out in Eastern Norway

As the week progresses, there will still be strong winds along the coast with strong southwesterly gales for several days – but not as much as on Monday.

– We’ve had a lot of gray weather here in the east lately, but now we’re going to see a bit more sun. So-called westerly weather because the wind comes from the west and we are somewhat sheltered. Already tomorrow, it will peek out, although it will still be windy along the coast.

– There won’t be a high-pressure system providing a clear sky, but it will get brighter, the meteorologist informs.
