Shabazz Sharif assured Xi Jinping of security for Chinese personnel in Pakistan

Pakistan Prime Minister Shabazz Sharif is on a two-day state visit to China for the first time. A high-level delegation including the country’s ministers has also traveled with him. Meanwhile, the Pakistani Prime Minister met Chinese President Xi Jinping in the capital Beijing and discussed bilateral relations.

According to the joint statement published on the meeting between the two leaders, Xi Jinping expressed his concern to Shahbaz Sharif about the attacks targeting his country’s personnel who were working on the projects being implemented by China in Pakistan.

In the wake of increasing attacks on Chinese in Pakistan, the then Pakistan Prime Minister was informed about the lack of security measures being taken, the statement said.

It also said that Shabazz Sharif has since assured security for all Chinese personnel, projects being implemented and Chinese companies in Pakistan. The statement also stated that the two sides exchanged views on further strengthening all-round cooperation between the two countries and improving the current cooperation in various fields.
