A highly anticipated new film starring Shah Rukh Khan is slated to hit theaters on Christmas Day in 2026, according to a new report, strategically positioned to maximize box office potential and avoid competition with the upcoming epic film Ramayana. The move comes after the massive success of Khan’s recent blockbusters, Pathaan and Jawan, leaving fans eager for his next project.
A Strategic Release Date
The makers of King, currently in production, have reportedly locked in December 25, 2026, as the release date. This decision followed careful consideration of several options, including December 4, 2026. “The duo of SRK and Sid were brainstorming several options for their release, and the two in the forefront were – December 4 and December 25,” a source told Bollywood Hungama. “After weighing all options, they have locked a Christmas 2026 release for their action packed entertainer.”
The choice to opt for the Christmas slot is largely attributed to a desire to provide ample breathing room for Ramayana, which is expected to be a major cultural and commercial event. “SRK and Sid are clear in maintaining a gap from Ramayana, which could go on to record a historic business,” the source explained. “They don’t want to come and hurt the business of this divine saga in any way, and hence have locked a Christmas 2026 release. This ensures a gap of 45 days between Ramayana and King, giving both the films the breathing space that they deserve.”
An All-Star Cast and Familiar Direction
King promises to be another spectacle, directed by Siddharth Anand, who previously helmed the blockbuster Pathaan. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi, Suhana Khan, and Abhay Verma. The first look of the film was unveiled on Khan’s birthday in 2025, further fueling anticipation among fans.

With no major Hindi releases currently planned for the Christmas 2026 period, King is expected to enjoy a largely uncontested run at the box office. While the Hollywood film Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to premiere a week prior, industry insiders believe the appeal of a Shah Rukh Khan film will resonate more strongly with the domestic Hindi cinema audience. “There is Avengers: Doomsday a week before, but Hollywood films are frontloaded and for the Hindi cinema audience, there’s nothing that can top the experience of watching a Shah Rukh Khan film on the big screen,” the source stated.
