Sharjah’s commitment to bolstering its water infrastructure is set to receive a significant boost, with the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority initiating a series of ambitious projects slated for completion in 2025. These upgrades, totaling 136.5 kilometers of new and improved water lines, aim to meet the growing demands of the population and enhance the overall efficiency of the network.
Addressing Growing Demand with Strategic Investments
The projects reflect a proactive approach to water management, driven by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and closely monitored by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Executive Council. A senior official stated that the authority is dedicated to developing the water network across the emirate, ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply for all residents.
Key Projects Underway
Several key projects are already underway, targeting specific regions within Sharjah. These include:
- Al Hamriyah East: Completion of 21 kilometers of water lines, representing an investment of 10 million dirhams.
- Al Tay (East & West): Implementation of 15 kilometers of new water distribution lines, costing 7 million dirhams.
- Al Saja’a Industrial Area (Phase 8): Extension of water lines spanning 21.6 kilometers, with a total cost of 9.8 million dirhams.
- Al-Qattaina 2: Implementation of 12.5 kilometers of new water lines, requiring an investment of 5.5 million dirhams.
Replacing Aging Infrastructure for Enhanced Safety and Reliability
Beyond expansion, the authority is also prioritizing the replacement of aging infrastructure. Approximately 35 kilometers of old asbestos water lines are being replaced with modern epoxy reinforced with fiberglass pipes in Industrial Area 2 and Maysloun. This upgrade is crucial for improving water quality and ensuring the long-term integrity of the distribution system.
According to a company release, the new water networks and lines are being constructed to the highest technical specifications and standards, utilizing materials that meet stringent drinking water quality requirements. The aim is to guarantee a continuous, high-quality, and efficient water service for the community. Furthermore, the projects are being overseen by local engineers, demonstrating a commitment to utilizing and developing local expertise.
