The Korean mixed doubles team of Shin Yu-bin and Lim Jong-hoon are continuing their remarkable run, securing a spot in the semifinals of the 2025 World Table Tennis (WTT) Finals Hong Kong after a dominant performance in the group stage. This latest success follows their bronze medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics, solidifying their position as a force in international table tennis.
Rising Stars Advance in Hong kong
Currently ranked second in the world in mixed doubles, Shin Yu-bin (21, korean Air) and Lim Jong-hoon (28, korea Exchange) showcased their skill and determination at the tournament held on December 11th. They defeated the world No. 4 Japanese pair of Sora Matsushima and Miwa Harimoto in straight sets, 3-0 (14-12, 12-10, 11-5), in just 27 minutes. This victory came on the heels of another 3-0 win against the world’s sixth-ranked duo, Hugo Calderano and Bruno Takahashi of Brazil, the previous day.
Group Stage Success Secures Semifinal Berth
The WTT finals Hong Kong features a format of eight teams divided into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals, and Shin Yu-bin and Lim Jong-hoon have already clinched their place. Their strong performance, coupled with the results of other matches in their group – Matsushima-Harimoto and Calderano-Takahashi both holding 1-1 records, and Álvaro Robles-Maria Xiao (Spain) with two losses – guaranteed at least a second-place finish, regardless of the outcome of their final group stage match against world No. 7 Robles and Xiao on december 12th.
A season of Success
This year has been exceptionally successful for the Korean pair. They have claimed victory in three WTT series events and finished as runners-up at both the U.S. and European Smash tournaments. The WTT Finals Hong Kong holds added significance as it brings together the world’s elite players for a final showdown to conclude the season.

The duo’s concentration was evident throughout their match against Matsushima and Harimoto. They battled through deuce in the first two games, ultimately securing victories in both, before closing out the match with a decisive win in the third game.
