Ship strike: Ships tied up for 48 hours

The ships are still tied up in the ports for another 48 hours, as the PNO announced that the strike would continue, requesting a meeting with the Minister of Shipping, Christos Stylianidis.

The ships will remain tied up in the ports today Thursday 24 October 2024 and tomorrow Friday 25 October 2024.

The ships will remain connected to ports and the following two days (24-25/10), after the two-day strike that lasted from the 22nd to the 23rd of the month.

The sailors ask, among other things, for the repeal of Law 41/50, an immediate amendment to the article on four-month routing EG/OG, High Speed Ships, the signing of a collective labor agreement with a 12% increase and the imposition of a mandatory seven-month routing.

The PNO announced the strike:

“The PNO Administration met today and the only item on the agenda was to assess the ongoing Federation strike announced for October 22 and 23, 2024, and make a decision.

In principle, the Secretary General and the Administration welcome the massive participation of our colleagues, which contributes to the popularity of Conradh na Gaeilge strike with the aim of finally achieving our demands, as these were sent extrajudicially to the employers’ organizations and to the Government, according to our announcements in the previous period.

Large meetings were held today in many places shipsin the presence of the General Secretary and the majority of the Management Members, but also individually from the main Trade Unions, with the aim of solving the very serious problems of the Seamen for whom the strike is taking place.

During today’s Meeting, PNO Management took into account the challenging and uncompromising attitude of the employer regarding the renewal and signing of the SSE for 2025, not only for the amount of the increased rate, but also for a series of very serious problems such as that. such as: unpaid overtime, the fast travel routes and overnight stays of staff as well as a series of sectoral problems.

The Administration also took into account the non-positive response from the Ministry to find an immediate solution to the unacceptable regime that was implemented against us, with Law 4150/2013, to end the 4 month E/GO/G routing. high-speed planes to impose a 7-month routing, strictly monitor the employment of 10 times the crew on the high-speed ships, but also the humiliating regime related to the conditions of granting unemployment benefits to Seafarers, leaving that it is prohibited even for those who are entitled to receive the monthly scraps of 350 euros.

At the same time, there was a unanimous opinion, from the Ministry and its Services regarding all the key issues above, that a discriminatory attitude is often maintained in favor of shipbuilding and against the legislative and institutional rights of Seamen.

After taking all of the above into account, above all, the mood of the vast majority of our colleagues in shipswhich is fully in line with the decisions of the PNO to protect our rights, the Federal Administration unanimously decided the continue the 48 hour strike with a new 48-hour pan-Hellenic strike on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 October 2024 (expected to increase) from 00.00 to 23.59 on 25 October on Passenger Coastal Ships and Mediterranean Cruise Ships (E/GO /G International Ships and Cruise Ships).

The Administration also decided to request an immediate meeting with the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, to further strengthen the strike teams in each port and to hold a rally on Friday 25 October at 10.00 in front of the ship ELYROS in Agios Dionysios.

We ask all Sailors to be in constant communication with their unions, but also with the PNO to defend the fight we are fighting and we are sure that we will win in the end”.
