Officer-involved shooting shuts down 105 Freeway in Lynwood

The westbound 105 Freeway in the Lynwood area was closed on Sunday afternoon as authorities investigated an officer-involved shooting in the lanes. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) issued a SigAlert, indicating that the freeway was expected to remain blocked at Long Beach Boulevard until approximately 4 a.m. Monday.

The incident began around 3:15 p.m. when CHP officers were called to a report of a person walking in traffic lanes on the freeway. Details on the events leading up to the shooting have not been fully disclosed, but it is known that after officers arrived, they became involved in an incident described only as an officer-involved shooting near the Wilmington Avenue offramp.

Despite the intensity of the situation, no officers were injured. Aerial footage from AIR7 HD revealed a blocked-off scene with clothing and other items strewn across the lanes, as well as what appeared to be blood on the road surface.

As the investigation into the shooting continues, motorists are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. The closure of the 105 Freeway is expected to cause significant delays in the Lynwood and surrounding areas.
