On the afternoon of Thursday, September 13, social media users reported possible shootings in the citrus growing area of Nuevo León, violent incidents in Montemorelos, Allende, Linares and General Terán; as well as blockades at different points on the National Highway.

According to local media, there have been reports of attacks carried out by armed men in pickup trucks in different parts of the region, who fired shots, leaving two people dead.

In what is believed to have been a direct attack in the Lerdo de Tejada neighborhood in Montemorelos, a woman was injured in her home.

There are also videos circulating, recorded by citizens, of patrol cars that have been abandoned with their doors open and gunshot wounds on some roads in the General Terán area, with no information yet on the whereabouts of those who were driving them.

Authorities have reported that in previous days, an operation was carried out in the south of Nuevo León, specifically in the municipality of Galeana; therefore, this series of attacks could be a response by criminal groups to these actions.

The armed group responsible for this afternoon’s attacks in Nuevo León is believed to be the Cartel del Noreste, although this information has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.

There is also a video circulating of a female driver, accompanied by a minor and another woman, in which they find a section of the National Highway closed and ask a motorcyclist for information about what is happening; to which the man responds that there is a shooting and they must take cover.

Due to the lack of control in the area and the lack of information from the authorities, recommendations have been made among citizens to avoid approaching the area until there is a report that the situation has been brought under control.
