Chottanikkara: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case of attempted murder of a woman by spraying a chemical used to drain sewage from her mouth. The case was registered by the Chottanikkara police and was taken over by the CBI following a High Court order. The lawsuit alleges that her husband abused her in Canada. The FIR was filed in the Ernakulam CJM court.

Shruthi Suresh from Chottanikkara had lodged a complaint against her husband Srikanth Menon from Kodungallur. Shruti, who got married in 2018, moved to Canada with her husband in 2020. It is alleged that her intoxicated husband brutally beat her and gave her a chemical called DRNO. The CBI has taken up the case with the court in connection with the case of burning of Shruti’s esophagus and trachea.

The seriously injured woman was returning home seeking treatment. It proceeds with the help of tubes attached to the neck. It is alleged that 75 pawans of gold was stolen from the woman. The Chottanikkara police registered a case in December 2020 but no action was taken to arrest the accused. The police investigation was ineffective as most of the incidents took place in Canada. Following this, the probe was handed over to the CBI.
