Kochi ∙ A complaint was made that the owner of the agency, Vanita, was assaulted during the strike of the labor union members in front of the cooking gas distribution center in Vypin Kuzhupilli. A video has surfaced of union workers robbing agency owners. In the video, the CITU activists say that they belong to the ruling party of the state and that they will give jobs to the employees even if the agency is closed. The Munambam police registered a case on the complaint that Vanitha, who belongs to the scheduled caste agency, was insulted by caste names. The complaint is that the owner of A&DA Gas Agency, Uma Sudhir, was beaten up following a dispute over the demand for permanent employment of the workers.
A complaint was raised that Uma was grabbed and pushed and castigated, but initially the police were not ready to file a case, but after the video of this went viral, a case was filed. The video of the verbal argument between the two parties has also come out. In the video, CIT leaders can be seen saying, “Don’t worry.. We are people with a lot of cases”, “We know how to kill and kill”, “Shut up.. Kerala is the ruling party, we will give you jobs..” The agency owners have approached the court seeking police protection.
Another gas agency in the area had assigned certain areas to the same agency for cylinder supply. Following this, the agency temporarily assigned four people to supply gas there. Meanwhile, as the gas distribution company reduced the number of cylinders supplied per day, the temporary workers were out of work. They approached the agency asking to stabilize them but they were not ready.
The agency’s position was that it could not be fixed as another company had been temporarily assigned to the specified area. With this, the workers joined the CITU union and organized a strike. The conflict resulted in the union unit being inaugurated in the agency by senior officials.
