Lucknow: Malayali journalist Siddique Kappan, who was granted bail by the Supreme Court, will remain in jail in Lucknow, prison officials said. This is because the case is still being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Kappan was arrested on October 6, 2020 while on his way to Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, where he raped and killed a Dalit girl. The Supreme Court granted bail to Kappan, who had been in jail for nearly two years.

The court granted bail with conditions. The Supreme Court directed that Kappan should stay in Jangpura, Delhi for the first 6 weeks after being released on bail. Then we will go to Kerala. In both places, you have to appear at the local police station every Monday. The passport should be produced in the trial court. The Supreme Court also said that the trial court can fix other conditions of bail as it thinks fit.
