In 2013, the Rana Plaza collapse in Savar killed many garment workers. Nazrul Islam Khan made the movie ‘Rana Plaza’ about this tragedy. It stars Simon Sadiq and Parimani. After the completion of the work, the director submitted the movie to the Censor Board. But even today it has not received the clearance. It gets stuck repeatedly in legal complications.

The interim government was sworn in a few days ago. Its director Nazrul Islam Khan said that he will submit the movie again to the Censor Board.

The movie ‘Rana Plaza’ was allowed to release on July 11, 2015 with the verdict of the High Court after being stuck in the Censor Board for almost eight months. Then the release date of the movie was fixed on September 4 of the same year. However, in view of the garment owner’s writ petition, the High Court imposed a six-month ban on the exhibition and broadcast of this film.

Then on September 6, 2015, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed the six-month ban imposed by the High Court on the exhibition and broadcast of the film. Later, as the ban was lifted, the makers prepared to release the movie on September 11 of the same year. But the movie was again banned on September 10, a day before its release.

On January 5, 2016, the Bangladesh government again banned the exhibition of ‘Rana Plaza’. A government statement said the film was declared uncertified by the Censor Appellate Committee as it was deemed unfit for public screening.

Director Nazrul Islam Khan said, “Rana Plaza” is a movie of my many efforts. But even today I could not release the movie. I cannot express this sadness in words. The movie is based on a disaster. But the movie has made my life a disaster now. After that the production of two more movies started but the work was not completed. Because it is difficult to focus on work when dreams are broken.

Director Nazrul Islam has invested money in this movie. He mentioned the matter with emotion and said, I am the partner of this movie. I have spent my entire life’s income on this movie. Three crores have been invested so far. I don’t know if this money will ever come back. I have become a disaster! Who will judge it?

The director of the movie claims that there is nothing negative in the movie. Rather, he thinks that garment owner-workers will find an opportunity to become more aware in the movie. Rana Plaza is the first film in the Bangladeshi cinema world to be banned for six months the day before its release. After six months, 11 long years have passed, but the movie is still not released.

In this context, Parimani said, there were many dangerous scenes in this movie, in which my body bled while acting. I shot the movie with a lot of difficulty. I have never worked so hard and worked so hard in any movie. Here the tears of my eyes, the blood of my body were all genuine.

The movie also stars Abul Hayat, late actor Sadek Bachchu, Kabila, Rehana Jolly, Shireen Alam, Habib Khan and others. Mujtaba Saud has written the dialogues of this movie based on the story and screenplay of director Nazrul Islam Khan.
