Singapore Police Adopt 6000-0999 Caller ID to Fight Scams

Singapore police are adopting a single dedicated caller ID, 6000-0999, starting Monday, November 2, 2026, to combat a sharp surge in government official impersonation scams. Every outgoing call from the agency will use this number and be followed immediately by an official gov.sg SMS verification.

The Singapore Police Force is launching the dedicated single caller ID 6000 0999 to make it easier for the public to identify legitimate communications.

The new line operates strictly for outgoing communication. It cannot receive incoming calls and will not be used on messaging applications such as WhatsApp or Telegram.

Authorities confirmed that any call appearing from this number on an online messaging platform is fraudulent.

Anyone in the community seeking additional help following a telephone conversation can reach out to law enforcement via their feedback portal or by dialing the 1800-358-0000 feedback hotline.

Police Launch Dedicated Number Following 3,230 Impersonation Scams

Between January and September 2026, authorities recorded at least 3,230 reported cases of scams involving the impersonation of Singapore government officials. Total losses from those offenses reached at least $142.5 million.

During the same nine-month period in 2025, investigators logged at least 1,010 reported cases with losses totaling $61.4 million.

Police impersonation alone accounted for at least 1,310 cases during the 2026 window, resulting in at least $53.3 million in losses.

SMS Messages and Network Requirements Help Identify Police Calls

Every call from 6000-0999 triggers an SMS sent from the official gov.sg ID, with details on how people can contact the police if they need further assistance.

This message arrives even if the telephone call goes unanswered.

The text message usually includes the name of the police officer who made the call.

Major online messaging and conferencing services deemed to pose the highest risk of scams to users in Singapore, including WhatsApp and Telegram, must implement network-level requirements.

The services are now additionally required to put safeguards in place that block any unauthorized employment or imitation of the gov.sg ID and the 6000-0999 police line.

Law enforcement has exclusive rights to this specific line.

Local residents and entities alike are barred from utilizing it for telephone communications.

Government Prepares to Expand Prefixed Numbering Across Other Public Institutions

The initiative emerged from a collaborative effort uniting the Singapore Police Force, Open Government Products, the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, and the Infocomm Media Development Authority.

Back in February, Goh Pei Ming, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, revealed that authorities were collaborating alongside IMDA and OGP to establish a unified and easily identifiable phone number designated for police communications.

Authorities caution citizens against presumming an individual is a government representative simply because they possess confidential identifiers like a full name and NRIC number.

Individuals must independently verify the caller’s credentials directly through authorized communication channels belonging to the referenced public agency.

When uncertainties arise, individuals can dial the 24/7 ScamShield hotline at 1799 to verify whether a particular phone number is authentic.
