He has now died at the age of 84. This is reported by the Czech portal “Extra”, citing the Laufers family. The daughter Ester confirms to the portal: her father died on April 20th.

Accordingly, he is said to have been in a coma for years after a serious heart operation. According to the daughter, nurses at the Motol hospital, a district of the Czech capital Prague, devoted themselves to caring for her father. According to the tabloid magazine “Blesk”, Ester Laufer thanked the staff for the help they provided.

“A Grand Seigneur of Show Business”

Laufer was a big star, especially in his home country. This is also shown by the numerous reports in the local media landscape. But he also made a career in Germany and became a well-known figure in the industry as a rock’n’roll and pop entertainer as well as an actor and musician.

There, Laufer’s life story is summarized as follows: He was born in France in 1939 as the child of a Czech of Jewish origins. His family moved to England, where Laufer’s father worked as a military doctor for the Royal Air Force. In 1947 we returned home to what was then Czechoslovakia.

Laufer later studied at the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, appeared in numerous domestic and foreign entertainment shows and recorded several records. In fact, he also scored a hit in Germany: “Holiday in Spain” reached number 27 in the singles charts in 1968. A short time later he got his own TV show on NDR.
